After whitening — what to know
For 48 hours, follow the 'white diet': avoid coffee, tea, red wine, berries, beetroot and coloured sauces. Enamel is more porous during this period and absorbs pigment easily.
Sensitivity for the first 1–3 days is a normal reaction to the whitening gel. Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. If pain persists beyond 3 days — contact your dentist.
The result lasts 1–2 years with regular hygiene and limiting staining foods. Top-up sessions with take-home trays every 3–6 months extend the effect.
Contraindications for whitening
Professional whitening cannot be performed in the following cases:
- Under 18 years of age — immature enamel and open dentinal tubules cause pain
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding — the safety of hydrogen peroxide has not been confirmed
- Untreated cavities — gel penetrates through defects and irritates the pulp
- Crowns and veneers — do not change colour; shade is selected after whitening
