What is caries treatment

Tooth decay (caries) is the breakdown of hard tooth tissue by bacteria in the mouth. It is the most common dental disease: according to the WHO, more than 90% of adults are affected. The key rule: the earlier treatment begins, the smaller the intervention and the lower the cost.

At iDenta clinic in Łódź, cavities are treated in a single visit: we remove the decayed tissue and place a tooth-coloured light-cured composite filling. Anaesthesia makes the procedure completely painless — even for those who fear the dentist.

Dental treatment in Łódź includes early-stage diagnosis: an intraoral camera and X-rays detect interproximal cavities invisible to the naked eye.

How to prepare for treatment

  • Eat before the visit

After anaesthesia, eating is not possible for 1–2 hours — come having eaten

  • Come rested

    Stress amplifies the pain response

  • Report any allergies

To anaesthetics, latex or dental materials

  • List of current medications

    Some drugs affect anaesthesia

After filling placement

Anaesthesia wears off within 1–3 hours — do not chew on that side until full sensation returns, to avoid biting your cheek.

Mild sensitivity to cold and heat for the first 1–2 weeks is a normal reaction. Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. If pain worsens, spontaneous night pain appears, or the filling feels high — contact your dentist.

Composite fillings last 7–10 years with proper hygiene. Avoid cracking nuts, ice and hard sweets — these are the main causes of chipping.

Special cases in dental treatment

In some situations, a simple filling is not sufficient:

  • Deep decay reaching the pulp — requires root canal treatment before filling
  • Allergy to composite components — we use glass ionomer cement or ceramic inlays
  • Destruction of more than 50% of the crown — a ceramic inlay or crown is indicated for lasting protection

Please inform your dentist of any past allergic reactions to dental materials or anaesthetics.

Frequently asked questions about dental treatment

No. We use anaesthesia with a topical gel applied before the injection. Most patients do not feel the needle.
