What is dental prosthetics

Dental prosthetics is the restoration of lost or damaged teeth using artificial constructions: crowns, bridges, removable dentures and implant-supported restorations. The goal is to restore full chewing function, rebuild aesthetics and prevent neighbouring teeth from shifting.

At iDenta clinic in Łódź, we use a digital protocol: an intraoral scanner instead of silicone impressions, CAD/CAM-milled crowns, veneers and inlays from zirconia and E.max. The precision of a digital scan eliminates distortion and guarantees a perfect fit for every restoration.

Dental prosthetics in Łódź is not just about aesthetics. A missing tooth causes bone loss and neighbouring tooth drift within 1–2 years — early restoration preserves anatomy and saves money.

How prosthetic treatment works at iDenta

  1. Examination and X-ray

We assess the tooth and bone condition

  2. Preparation

We prepare the tooth for the crown

  3. Digital impression

3D scanning instead of silicone impression

  4. Temporary crown

We protect the tooth while the restoration is made

  5. Try-in and cementation

We verify the fit and cement the crown

  6. Follow-up

We check the bite and adaptation

Preparation for prosthetic treatment

  • Treat any periodontitis

Unstable gums are a contraindication for crowns

  • Resolve all active cavities

A crown cannot be placed over active inflammation

  • No special preparation required

A solid meal before the visit is sufficient

  • If you grind your teeth — inform the dentist

We will choose a harder crown and fabricate an occlusal guard

Adaptation period and prosthesis care

After a permanent crown or bridge is placed, a slight foreign-body sensation for 1–2 weeks is normal. Full chewing load resumes immediately after cementation.

Crowns and bridges are cleaned like natural teeth: toothbrush + paste + floss or water irrigator. Under a bridge, always use superfloss or interdental brushes to remove food debris.

Routine check-ups every 6 months allow timely detection of any issues with retention or marginal fit. Zirconia crowns have a service life of 15–20 years or more.

When prosthetics requires additional preparation

All active inflammatory conditions must be resolved before prosthetic treatment:

  • Periodontitis — unstable teeth cannot serve as bridge abutments
  • Untreated cavities and infections — a tooth with active inflammation cannot be crowned
  • Insufficient bone volume for an implant — bone grafting or sinus lift must come first
  • Bruxism (night grinding) — without an occlusal guard it will destroy any restoration

Inform your dentist of any medications you take, especially bisphosphonates and anticoagulants — this affects treatment planning.

Frequently asked questions about dental prosthetics

No. Tooth preparation for a crown is done under anaesthesia. Mild sensitivity for 1–2 weeks afterwards is possible.
