Frenuloplasty is the surgical correction of the tongue or lip frenum. A short or abnormally attached frenum restricts tongue movement, impairs speech, hampers breastfeeding and causes orthodontic problems.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and takes 15–20 minutes. Tongue exercises are prescribed afterwards, and speech therapy may be recommended if needed.
