A turunda is a strip of gauze or cotton soaked in a medicament. It is placed in the socket after tooth extraction when dry socket or acute inflammation develops. It relieves pain and protects tissues from infection.
The procedure is quick — 10–15 minutes. The turunda is changed every 2–3 days until the socket heals. Antiseptic rinses and antibiotics are prescribed alongside if needed.
